I've just started a new series of paintings (www.duvallabstract.com/a new generation) about the transition of caring for your child to when they care for themselves. In the early years you provide the care, support and values that define you. As your child moves into the teenage years, many of those things are challenged as they find their own path.
The paintings have organic shapes (even foetus-like) and are multi-layered just as a parent child relationship is. The surface is heavily textured and I have used intense, iridescent and joyful colours. There are glimpses of bright colours through seams or around corners. The blocks and lines represent the many boundaries, hurdles and paths of the upbringing of a child.
I was inspired by Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus, Dali’s elephants and Klee’s Fig Tree but encapsulated my own fantasy of chaos and gaudiness. There's another one (have a look) and there's more to come.
